About the event

The Buffalo Maritime Center has built a traditional, full-sized replica of the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief, which originally traversed the Erie Canal upon its opening in 1825.

This fall, the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief will embark on its Bicentennial Voyage from Buffalo to the New York Harbor, commemorating Governor Dewitt Clinton’s inaugural journey. This voyage offers communities across New York State a chance to explore the past and plan for the future.


Free historic family fun! Activities including Entourage, Boat Exhibits, Big Tent, Walk or Wagon Tours & Museums. Food for purchase will be available with Public Parking throughout downtown Lyons.

Timeline of Events and Activities (estimated):

  • 1:00pm OPTION: Public Entourage meets boat at Abbey Park Landing. Walk Towpath alongside boat to Event Location.

  • 2:00pm WATER/LAND: Seneca Chief Locks through E27; Docks at Northside Low Dock Photos Ops View from a distance, southside park.
